Dr. Jimmy Spire Ssentongo serves as an Associate Professor of Ethics and Identity Studies at Uganda Martyrs University. Additionally, he imparts knowledge in Ethics and Research methods at Makerere University. Holding a Ph.D. in Humanistic Studies from the University of Humanistic Studies in Holland, his academic background also includes a Master’s in Ethics and Public Management from Makerere University, a Master of Science in Education for Sustainability from London South Bank University (Commonwealth Fellowship), a B.A. in Philosophy from Urbaniana, and a Diploma in Philosophy and Religious Studies from Apostles of Jesus Philosophicum in Nairobi.

With a rich post-doctoral experience, Dr. Ssentongo has been a Visiting Research Fellow at the Centre for African Studies (University of Cambridge) and a Research Fellow on the African Humanities Program (AHP). Notably, he is the founding Chair of the Center for African Studies at Uganda Martyrs University.

Apart from heading research at UMU, he serves as the editor for the Uganda Martyrs University monograph series, “Mtafiti Mwafrika” (African Researcher), and the Uganda Martyrs University Book Series. Dr. Ssentongo is also a respected columnist and editorial cartoonist for The Observer newspaper in Uganda.

Distinguished for his social media activism, he employs his platform to spotlight issues of corruption, accountability, and social justice. Using his X account, he exposes government corruption, injustice, and governance challenges. Dr. Ssentongo is renowned for initiating online exhibitions, such as the Uganda Potholes Exhibition and Uganda Health Exhibition, empowering citizens to demand accountability through innovative means.
